“The difference between who you are and who you want to be, is WHAT you do.”
I think I live by this saying. I’m a great believer in achieving your goals and being who you want to be. It’s always easier said than done of course, but unfortunately we only get one shot at life. If you don’t pursue that dream life you want now- then when will you do that? Put excuses behind you and work on what you want to be from today. Write things down, it will help a lot.
I have wanted to be successful since a young age, run my own business and be my own boss. I never knew what it would be and always wondered if I would one day wake up with a groundbreaking and genius idea. Well, that never happened. I did, however after some time manage to build my own business which is continuously growing and empowering more women as we speak. I like to think that what Letzshare has become is groundbreaking and helping a lot of women push themselves out of their comfort zones and enjoy trying new things. This came from following my passions, personal beliefs and goals. Oh and yes a lot of work and determination.
What does it mean to be an entepreneur?
I would be lying if the first time I ever heard the word, I didn’t even know its meaning. Hopefully, 5 years on I can give you a little insight into what it means.
It’s funny as I normally don’t call myself an entrepreneur, rather a business owner or even founder. If you google the word this is what you find: “An entrepreneur is a person who starts a new business and usually risks his own money to start the venture.”
I suppose that explains it all. In my eyes, it’s someone that has found a problem that they are passionate about, have a possible solution and they are determined to make a difference. All entrepreneurs have different drives, wether it be financial, social, control over their work or flexibility. For me, it was a case of combining what I love (snowboarding and all adventure sports) and the possibility of giving women a chance to try the amazing sports that surround them. I have always taken part in more “male dominated” sports and wanted to give other women the feeling that they can try anything they want and feel comfortable doing so!
Whatever you do, it takes a lot grit, determination and passion for what you are trying to achieve. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, I’m afraid to say there are very high chances it ain’t going to work. Purely because when things get tough and don’t work out you’ll probably find it hard to dig deep and find the motivation to carry on.
If you want to find our more about my business and the opportunities we offer with Letzshare, head over to the website here: http://www.letzshare.co.uk or follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We run a variety of sports activities for women to try alternative sports (e.g. surfing & yoga, stand up paddle boarding, climbing, snowboarding, bounce fitness classes and lots more). Events currently take place in South Wales (Cardiff, Swansea, Gower, Pembrokeshire) though the aim is to expand and cover more locations so keep your eyes peeled! There is no pressure and its all about having fun and meeting new people. Go check it out!
Have I felt under valued being a woman in business?
Not really, but you do occasionally get people which are a bit sceptic when you tell them you run your own business. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t JUST run my business. I have been finishing a masters, currently in a part-time job in an entrepreneurial environment and doing some freelance work, whilst writing a blog and filming for my YouTube channel; but I wouldn’t say I have had negative experiences for being a woman. As anything in life you have to learn to stand up for yourself and pursue what you believe.
Any tips if you’re thinking about starting your own venture, whatever that may be!
- Find your passion, goals and problems you think you may have a solution to
- Write things down! Goals for the next 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years. Where do you want to be?
- Find support around you. Who can you speak to? There are a lot of organisations that can help you.
- Surround yourself with like-minded people, start going to networking events, tell people about your idea
- Do market research! If your audiences don’t seem keen about your product or service you may struggle to sell it. Feedback is crucial!
- JUST DO IT! Take the plunge. You’ll learn so much just by starting, every day will be a learning curve. Just take it all in your stride and listen to people.
Wish you all the best,
Till next time
